Setting Nvidia Graphics Options in Windows XP

Setting Nvidia Graphics Options in Windows XP
KBA-01024
Purpose & Scope

The iRacing.com Simulator will automatically optimize the graphics settings within the simulator for best performance with regard to your specific computer system.  The video settings you have within Windows are taken into account when this configuration happens.  It is always better to start with the least intensive settings for your card and work your way up to settings that will give you the best performance to graphics quality ratio.  There are no right or wrong settings in the Nvidia Control Panel.  One thing to consider is that the higher the numbers the greater the impact on performance.

Not all settings in the control panel will need to be adjusted. The four that have the greatest impact on system performance are listed below.   To change any of these options, see the procedure below.

NOTE:  The settings in this procedure are a recommended starting point if you are seeing a lack of graphical performance within the iRacing.com Simulator.

Procedure

1.  Click the small Green Nvidia icon in the system tray at the bottom right of your windows screen. If this icon is not present go to Step #2.

2.  Place your mouse anywhere on the desktop screen of windows and press your right mouse button.  A menu will pop up, click the menu item.
3.  Click the Manage 3D Settings Link at the upper left of the window.

4.  The right side of the control panel lists the various settings available with drop-down boxes.  Set only the following as shown in Steps 5 - 8.  Leave all others as they are.

5.   Anisotropic Filtering        Application-Controlled

6.   Antialiasing - Mode         Application-Controlled

7.   Antialiasing - Settings     Off

8.   Verticl Sync                   Off

9.  Click the button at the bottom right of the window.  This will save the settings.

10.  Close the Nvidia Control Panel by clicking the on the top right corner of the window.

Note that iRacing does not control anti aliasing, so it should be set through the nvidia control panel. Also vsync should be application controlled, as some users will need this to avoid tearing.
